Advice for Singles Games

The Government has announced the ‘Stay Alert’ phase in their Co-Vid 19 strategy, providing limited scope for sporting activities. This has now been actioned by Petanque England. Club sessions remain suspended until further notice, and individual Club members should make their own  decision if they feel it is safe to play, and by taking the appropriate actions and safeguards at The PIerhead.

The most important restriction is that you can only play as singles and, in our case, only one game per terrain.

The Pierhead is a very public area and as such:

– Individual risk assessments should include both contact with surfaces and the proximity of any other people, and, In this respect,

the storage tower must not be  used.

– We need to be seen to be complying consistently with the official guidelines at all times.

PE have suggested booking court time, but we believe that is impractical  and would suggest:

  • (Joining and…) Using the Members’ WhatsApp Group to inform when you intend to play,
  • Giving way to others who arrive to play, in reasonable time.

Best wishes and stay safe

Club Activities Suspended

In Line with Government Advice on Coronavirus, the Committee has decided to suspend all club activities until further notice. This includes all regular club sessions, melees, the St Michael’s Cup and the West Yorkshire League. Development of the Oatlands facility is also on hold.

Hopefully everyone can stay healthy and we can resume activities later in 2020.

February Disco Melee

On a chilly day we kept warm with some petanque, some mulled wine, some snacks and even some dancing.

This month’s melee champion was Sue with a perfect 4 wins out of 4. No shoot-out was required!

Some of us went for a late lunch to celebrate Graham’s birthday.

A Fine Start to 2020

The New Year got off to a great start with fine weather for the traditional New Year’s Day meeting at the Pierhead.

This was followed by more good weather for the January Melee on 3rd January. As in December we enjoyed mulled wine, mince pies and other festive treats before the exciting finish.

With two players tied on 25 points, the first Melee Champion of 2020 was decided by the inevitable shootout. It was Helen who took home the bubbly. So much for dry January.

Melee Christmas

Congratulations to Joyce, winner of the December melee on 6th December at the Pierhead.

With 3 players achieving 4 wins out of 4, the winner was decided by a shoot-out.

With Christmas less than 3 weeks away, we celebrated with mince pies and mulled wine, which went down very well. Melee Christmas to one and all!

Friday Melees

Our melees are continuing through Autumn and Winter on the first Friday of the month at 12pm.
The first of these was held on 4th October. After an enjoyable series of games, with accompanying wine and nibbles, there was a 4-way tie.
The deciding shoot-out was won by Tony – well done.

Winter Melees

Thursday evening melees have been enjoyed by most of our members, winners have been- Tony, Tricia, Alan and Keith twice. Keith won the final melee and took the cup home.
Winter melees will be starting on 4th October from 12.00 and the 1st Friday of the month. £3 to enter with the usual wine and nibbles. Weather permitting of course!
